Theory of Change

The corporate matching donation field is atomized with thousands of company programs and approximately a dozen corporate philanthropy platforms running parallel.  Until no there has not been a highly-focused organization serving as a locus for sharing, learning and uniting to improve program performance.

The Boost Matching Alliance will bring these players together to significantly increase employee participation.   Over time we hope to unleash hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to nonprofits tackling societal problems.

This is a marathon, not a sprint.   Taking a “crawl, walk, run” strategy, the BMA sees 2021 as a year in which to bring players together and test hypotheses about how to best attack the problem with a national launch in 2022.    These could include, but are not limited to:

  1. Testing behavioral science concepts (e.g. nudging for good, loss aversion, gamification) to see what most effectively moves more employees to participate.
  2. Creating an online resource center providing employee matching gift program leaders with easy access to information such as:
    1. Best practice analysis
    2. Case studies
    3. Service provider information
    4. Customizable national campaign resources
  3. Exploring the creation of an annual employee matching gift day to spur greater participation
